Australian rider Senna Agius will make his MotoGP debut in the 2027 season after Tech3 confirmed his signing for the championship’s new technical era.

The official announcement was made on 16 September 2026 and represents the decisive step from Moto2 to motorcycle racing’s premier class.

Agius will race for Tech3 from 2027, a season marking one of MotoGP’s most significant recent regulatory changes. The new generation of motorcycles will use 850cc engines instead of the current 1000cc units as part of a broader technical package.

For Agius, the promotion continues a path through junior competition and Moto2. MotoGP presents him as the fifth rookie on the 2027 grid.

The move also carries significance for Australian motorcycle racing, a country with a strong premier-class tradition through champions and race winners including Mick Doohan, Casey Stoner and Jack Miller.

Agius enters a different environment from previous generations. The 2027 season will begin with motorcycles redesigned for the new regulations, meaning even experienced riders will need to adapt.

For a rookie, that can be both a challenge and an opportunity: veterans’ experience on current 1000cc machines will be less directly transferable when the entire grid moves to a new concept.

Tech3 has a long history in MotoGP and has been an important team for developing and promoting riders at the highest level.

The transition from Moto2 to MotoGP is one of the largest steps in a rider’s career. Moto2 machinery is much closer in performance across competitors, while MotoGP features prototypes developed by manufacturers in an intense technological competition.

For Agius, the current season remains important: he must complete his Moto2 campaign before making the actual move to MotoGP.

The signing should not be presented as though Agius has already raced in MotoGP. His debut is scheduled for the 2027 season.

Nor can future performance be predicted. Adaptation depends on machinery, team, testing, injuries and many other factors.

What is confirmed now is the contract and promotion.

Agius will enter MotoGP at a moment when the championship is undergoing a technical reset. New 850cc engines and other elements of the 2027 regulations will reshape performance in the premier class.

For Senna Agius, the 16 September announcement turns a career objective into a concrete contract: from 2027, he will be a MotoGP rider.
