Paris’s Ménilmontant neighbourhood hosts the fifth Septembre Indien festival on 19 and 20 September, a free event organised entirely by volunteers.

The festival takes place at Place Maurice Chevalier, with three stages arranged around the square.

According to the programme published by the City of Paris, around 20 artists and bands will perform during the weekend.

Saturday runs from noon until midnight, while Sunday’s programme runs from 13:00 to 20:00.

The musical programme is deliberately eclectic, spanning rock, pop, rap, French chanson, reggae, dub, samba, choirs and other styles.

Alongside the concerts, a village of stalls brings together local associations, creators and activities for children.

Organisers also work with audiovisual-training institutions on technical production and sound.

Its free, community-based character distinguishes Septembre Indien from large commercial festivals and makes it an event built around the neighbourhood itself.
