Sibiu continues a cultural programme in which contemporary art and the city’s heritage meet through events including the Sibiu Contemporary Art Festival and Ars SACRA.
SCAF presents exhibitions, installations and contemporary-art projects across several venues and urban contexts.
The festival aims to connect artists, institutions and audiences while giving visibility to different forms of visual expression.
In parallel, the Ars SACRA festival, scheduled from 12 to 20 September, focuses on heritage, sacred art and the relationship between culture, architecture and Sibiu’s historic spaces. Organisers say admission to programme events is free, while times and venues may change.
The overlap between the programmes gives the city a diverse cultural weekend, allowing visitors to move from contemporary installations to events centred on heritage.
Sibiu is particularly suited to such projects because museums, churches, historic squares and cultural venues are concentrated within a relatively compact central area.
The precise programme, locations and opening times should be checked before attending because they vary by day.
