Peter Sidi won gold on Monday at the ISSF World Championship 300m Rifle in Cairo, in the Standard Rifle Open. Eurosport reported it. The international federation confirmed it. This is not Olympic gold and not the all-events shooting world championships.
The Romanian finished on 585 points and 18 inner tens, ISSF writes. Switzerland's Gilles Vincent Dufaux and Finland's Aleksi Leppa both scored 583. Dufaux took silver on the tie-break, Leppa bronze. Eurosport wrote Gillers: the name is Gilles.
Sidi scored 197 kneeling, 199 prone and 189 standing. His strongest position was prone, where he dropped one point across two series, ISSF notes. That is Monday's event, not the three-positions ranking.
AGERPRES writes that, at the same championship, he was eighth in 300m rifle three positions and 27th in prone. Those places are not Monday's medal. His club is CSA Steaua, coach Iulian Cazan, according to the agency. ISSF lists him only as Romania.
The event closed six days of the ISSF World Championship 300m Rifle at International Olympic City in the Egyptian capital. 300m is not on the Olympic programme. Anyone writing that Sidi became Olympic champion is writing past a specialist world championship.
Sidi, Hungarian-born, took the gold for Romania, not Hungary. A 300m world title does not move the Olympic events and does not close the air-rifle season.
