MP Robert Sighiarțau, interim president of the PNL Bistrița-Năsăud branch, said on Friday that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) “has learned nothing from the past and has started opposing its own government,” PS News reports, citing Agerpres.
At a press conference in Bistrița, the liberal said that after less than a week in government, the Social Democrats had “targeted” a finance minister, claiming the deficit left by Ilie Bolojan was far larger than what rating agencies and public data indicated.
Sighiarțau called the message a “disinformation campaign” meant to belittle Bolojan’s record and the “sacrifice of Romanians” — whom he thanked again — and to excuse what he described as PSD’s “false promises.”
Among those promises he listed diesel at 4 lei per litre for farmers, a VAT cut and a public-sector pay law voted in 2026. “People have figured out that PSD’s entire rhetoric is built on lies,” he added.
Asked whether the liberal electorate understood PNL’s vote to support the Luca Niculescu government and its later move into opposition, Sighiarțau said supporters “understood that Romania needs a government,” given conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine and their effects on the economy and household incomes.
The remarks are the stance of a local PNL leader; the report does not record official replies from PSD or the Finance Ministry to the Bistrița accusations.
