Tanczos Barna, nominated by UDMR for the agriculture ministry in Siegfried Mureșan’s cabinet, said on Saturday, 26 September 2026, that Romania needs a stable government for the next two years. The remarks came after the prime minister-designate submitted the programme and ministerial list to Parliament.
According to Agerpres, he said UDMR’s presence in Parliament and in any government is focused first on preserving and defending the rights of the Hungarian community, “as we have done over the past three and a half decades”. He also called for a programme centred on economic stability and on leaving the current impasse.
UDMR, Tanczos said, supports not raising taxes and cutting VAT to 19% as soon as the budget balance allows. Those are political objectives, not a law already passed and not an implementation date.
He called a new public-sector pay law “essential”, “regardless of negotiations with the Commission”. For fairness and stability in the public sector, he said, such a law should be adopted soon, and the government should give citizens and business a sense of direction.
On agriculture, points discussed with farmers’ associations, as reported by Agerpres, include irrigation, livestock-breed improvement, the land-leasing law and an insurance system for climate risks. “Farmers need support now,” he added, and said he hoped that support would come “in the coming weeks”. Hope is not a legislative timetable.
Prime minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan submitted the programme and ministerial list to Parliament on Saturday. Tanczos’s briefing followed that step, not the investiture vote.
The Mureșan cabinet was, at the time of the remarks, still in the investiture procedure. This account does not treat Tanczos as already serving as minister, nor a government programme as a rule already applying on farms.
