London’s Victoria and Albert Museum hosts Friday Late: “Awakenings” on Friday, 18 September at V&A South Kensington. The free event runs from 18:30 to 22:00 on Cromwell Road and activates spaces across the museum as part of V&A x London Design Festival 2026.

Its theme looks at forces that are hard to see but shape contemporary life, and at how design, craft and technology mediate digital and physical experience. Site-specific installations address material culture, identity, modern spiritualities and the non-human world.

Friday Late brings those themes to life through live music, performances, workshops and talks. Announced activations include Andriy Kyrychenko’s audio-visual performance Down to Earth in the Grand Entrance, a suzani embroidery workshop, a theremin performance by Li Yilei and tours with limited capacity. Places are generally first come, first served unless stated otherwise.

The Learning Centre also hosts a preview of Digital Design Weekend, which continues on Saturday and Sunday, 19–20 September, from 10:30 to 16:30. This year’s edition looks at creative technologies, ecology, care, community and a changing relationship with artificial intelligence.

If the museum or an installation reaches capacity, access switches to one-in, one-out. Filming and photography will take place during the evening. The detailed programme should be checked on the V&A page before visiting.
