Birmingham Airport announced 1,575,318 passengers in August 2026, the highest monthly volume it has reported. The figure is 3.7% above August 2025. The data are the operator’s statistics, not a profit statement or a punctuality score.

In the account of the announcement, Dublin was the busiest route, with 84,353 passengers, followed by Palma, Alicante, Dubai and Malaga. Low-cost traffic rose 11% year on year, according to the same figures attributed to the airport.

Chief commercial officer Matt Hazelwood tied the record to an apology: a fault in the hold-baggage screening system in August separated passengers from their bags. He said pride in the volume was no consolation to those affected, and that the priority had been safety, then reuniting bags with partner airlines.

A passenger record also puts pressure on security screening, baggage, ground transport and the terminal. Travellers should check flight times and baggage rules with their airline, not from a statistics article.

The airport publishes separate information on access, parking and works. Hazelwood also mentioned investment across the estate, including refurbishing toilet blocks one at a time so enough facilities remain open.

The figures do not describe every traveller’s experience. The year-on-year comparison and any later updates should be taken from Birmingham Airport, not from aggregators.
