PNL leader Ilie Bolojan told Buzău liberals on Friday that he had coffee at City Hall at lunch with PSD mayor Constantin Toma. He moved quickly to clarify: “Don’t let anything else appear — that we’re somehow switching to PSD… so you can rest easy,” News.ro reported.

Bolojan said that while passing through he called Adrian Mocanu (PNL Buzău) and Toma, whom he knows from the Association of Municipalities. The mayor invited him for coffee; “like civilised people,” he went to City Hall.

The relationship dates to the “Greater Buzău” project — merging the city with Țintești commune. Toma asked him then to back the plan after Bolojan tried something similar in Oradea with Băile Felix, where a referendum failed narrowly (1,600 votes short).

Former Buzău PNL chair Gabriel Avrămescu allegedly urged him not to come: “if you show up here you’ll wreck us.” Bolojan came anyway and backed the project, including in the Țintești church, telling liberals not to block good initiatives just because opponents propose them.

“On a good project… I don’t care about the person’s party. That’s how we should think,” he said, urging PNL elected officials to vote for good projects and oppose only “nonsense.”

Bolojan and Bucharest mayor Ciprian Ciucu were in Vrancea and Buzău on Friday meeting county PNL organisations.
