Ethan Coen turns 69 on 21 September 2026. He was born in Minnesota in 1957 and is best known for his work with his brother, Joel Coen: writing, directing, producing and editing, in credits that differ from film to film.

The joint filmography includes, among others, “Blood Simple,” “Raising Arizona,” “Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski” and “No Country for Old Men.” Dark humour, suspense and eccentric characters recur, without the genre being the same every time.

At the 80th Academy Awards, on 24 February 2008, “No Country for Old Men” won Best Picture, with Scott Rudin, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen as producers. Joel and Ethan Coen also received the awards for directing and adapted screenplay. The editing credit, under the alias Roderick Jaynes, was nominated only.
