Romania’s Digitalisation Authority has launched GIA, an AI assistant built into the Ghișeul.ro mobile app (Android and iOS). Authenticated users can pay taxes, duties and fines, download a criminal-record certificate or get passport information through natural-language chat, Mediafax reports.

One feature lets users pay fines by photographing the ticket: the system extracts the amount, issuing body and payment code, and the transaction can be confirmed in under 30 seconds, according to ADR. The assistant is available around the clock and can personalise answers from the user profile and public information.

GIA also guides passport applications — documents, booking and fee payment — without pushing users to external sites. Costinel-Bogdan Dumitru, minister delegate for digitalisation and AI, said the integration marks a shift from passive digitisation to proactive, interoperable public services.

Ghișeul.ro has more than 3.6 million active users. Plans for 2026 include more conversational services, a chat history and GIA access for people without an account.
