Prime Minister Luca Niculescu said the government has opened talks with unions on a first package of measures answering society’s needs, after Monday’s meeting at Victoria Palace with Romania’s major trade-union confederations. According to the premier, the discussions covered pension indexation and cutting bureaucracy.
The government’s official release confirms executive support for those tracks and for including unions in consultations on Romania’s position for the next EU funding cycle. Alongside the prime minister were Deputy PM Marian Neacșu and the ministers of Finance, Health, Education, Labour and Pre-university Education.
Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare outlined the fiscal-budget context and steps to cover financing needs through year-end. Unions also raised a minimum-wage increase from 1 January 2027; Radio România Actualități notes a union proposal of +300 lei net, while employers oppose it.
Talks are to continue in the National Tripartite Council, which the premier said he will convene in coming days. Separately, the National Trade Union Bloc held a debate on the minimum wage with Labour Minister Florin Manole attending.
The meeting marks the formal start of government–confederation consultations after the cabinet took office; concrete steps — indexation, deregulation, the minimum wage — remain to be negotiated in the tripartite format against the budget constraints Finance presented.
