Romania’s border with the Republic of Moldova saw heavy traffic on the entry side, with queues at the Sculeni and Albița crossing points. The Border Police said on Saturday that high volumes leaving Moldova were slowing vehicles towards the Romanian control, according to Libertatea and News.ro.
On the Romanian side, document checks and customs procedures were running under normal conditions. For cars, the average wait was about 40 minutes. Authorities advised drivers to check the Trafic Online app and to consider less busy crossings such as Stânca (Botoșani) and Bumbăta (Vaslui).
In the last 24 hours reported for 24 October 2026, border officers carried out external-border formalities for about 95,600 people and more than 15,800 means of transport. On the entry side into Romania, 49,266 people and 7,862 means of transport were processed, Mediafax reported, citing Border Police data.
Those figures cover the external border (Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine, plus maritime and air arrivals from outside Schengen), not only the Moldovan crossings. This article does not invent causes such as a refugee wave or a specific tourism motive: the cited sources describe congestion and traffic totals without a single official diagnosis of why.
In the same interval the Border Police also reported 82 illegal acts found (31 crimes and 51 contraventions), fines of 29,226 lei and goods seized for confiscation estimated at about 225,200 lei. Twenty-six foreign citizens were not allowed to enter, and 16 Romanian citizens were not allowed to leave, for legal reasons.
