Residents in north-east Romania received Ro-Alert messages on Saturday evening about possible drone intrusions into national airspace from the direction of Moldova. Alerts covered Iași, Neamț, Vaslui, Botoșani, Bacău and Suceava in turn, then ended after about two and a half hours.
The first warning went out in Iași around 17:04, followed by Neamț (17:27), Vaslui (17:53), Botoșani and Bacău (18:10–18:15) and Suceava (18:44). The Defence Ministry confirmed unauthorised aerial targets; people near Iași shared social-media clips of an object in the sky over nearby localities.
The Air Force activated its Air Policing combat duty. F-16 jets scrambled from Câmpia Turzii and Borcea/Fetești bases, along with an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter. Airspace around Iași was closed temporarily; an Eindhoven–Iași flight was diverted to Suceava, Iași International Airport said.
Defence minister Radu Oprea (Ștefan Radu Oprea) said two drones had entered without authorisation and that protecting the public and airspace was the priority. Later the ministry said one drone had left Romanian airspace and the second was last seen between Vaslui and Bacău. No crashes were reported.
Alerts began to lift after 19:20; Suceava was first cleared at 19:24, then the other counties. At Iași Airport, restricted airspace reopened and military aircraft withdrew from the area, according to official updates.
IGSU urged calm, shelter and calling 112 if objects fall from the sky — without approaching them. Moldovan authorities had earlier reported a drone on a path from the Odesa region toward the Transnistrian segment before the Romanian alerts widened.
