Romania and Hungary aim to deepen energy cooperation and improve cross-border transport of natural gas and electricity. Energy Minister Dumitru Chisăliță met Hungarian counterpart István Kapitány in Zagreb on the margins of the CESEC ministerial meeting, according to Capital / Romania’s Energy Ministry.
Talks covered cross-border infrastructure, supply security and Black Sea natural gas. For Bucharest, a better-connected regional market means access to energy in deficit periods and smaller price gaps between national markets.
“Romania’s priority is that interconnection development translates into concrete benefits for consumers and for industry competitiveness,” the Energy Ministry said on Facebook.
Kapitány welcomed Romania’s new government and said Romania is an essential partner for Hungary’s supply diversification, thanks to Black Sea gas and expanding bilateral transport capacity. He announced further talks to turn plans into concrete steps.
At CESEC, the Hungarian minister stressed Romanian Black Sea gas, LNG from Croatia and Greece, and the Vertical Corridor. He also announced Czechia and Poland joining Central and South-Eastern European energy cooperation, so all four Visegrád countries are now in CESEC.
