U.S. President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is appointing close adviser Stephen Miller as White House chief of staff, Agerpres reports, citing AFP, Reuters and dpa.

On Truth Social, Trump said Miller will take over Monday from current chief of staff Susie Wiles, who is to assume other responsibilities in his orbit but outside the administration.

The president called Miller “one of my most trusted advisers” and praised Wiles: “I want to thank her for her work as chief of staff — she did an excellent job!”

Miller is known as an architect of Trump’s hard-line immigration policy. The change comes days after Democrats’ midterm victory, giving them control of both chambers of Congress and the ability to block the White House legislative agenda and launch investigations into the administration.
