Salvamont Prahova said on Saturday that all high-altitude mountain trails in the county are closed because of current weather and the forecast. The warning was posted on the service’s official page and carried by agencies.
“Winter has taken hold in Prahova’s mountain ranges, and conditions make travel on altitude trails extremely difficult and dangerous,” Salvamont said. Rescuers reported a substantial snow cover that is expected to keep growing in the coming days.
At Vârful Omu, snow depth is expected to exceed 50 centimetres. Wind, fog and snowfall raise the risks for hikers on ridge routes and other high trails.
Salvamont Prahova urged tourists not to enter closed mountain paths and to avoid altitude tours. Before any trip into the mountains, rescuers ask people to check the weather and follow official advice.
The list of tourist mountain trails closed in the cold season — including routes in the Bucegi, Baiului and Ciucaș ranges — is published on salvamontprahova.ro. Saturday’s notice adds to the seasonal calendar in response to snowfall and the short-term forecast.
Mountain authorities stress that high trails remain hazardous while heavy snow and bad weather persist. No reopening date was given; any review depends on how conditions evolve.
