Traffic on Romania’s DN 67C Transalpina road, on the stretch between Rânca and Obârșia Lotrului, was closed from 14:00 on Saturday for all vehicles because of bad weather and snowfall. The notice came from the Craiova Regional Roads Directorate (DRDP) / CNAIR.
Before the closure, a SDN Târgu Jiu snow-clearing vehicle was scheduled for a final check of the section, to see whether any cars remained on the route about to be shut. After the measure took effect, road crews warned there would be no further patrols and that vehicle access on that stretch would not be allowed.
Drivers were told to respect the restriction and not try to enter the closed sector. How long the ban lasts depends on the weather, according to the official message.
The decision comes amid heavy precipitation forecasts for the foothill and mountain areas of Gorj and Mehedinți counties, with accumulations estimated at 50–70 litres per square metre. At altitude, falling temperatures may bring sleet and snow that undermine road safety.
Transalpina is one of Romania’s busiest mountain roads in the warm season; closing the Rânca–Obârșia Lotrului stretch of DN 67C cuts the ridge link until conditions improve. Authorities did not give a fixed reopening date.
