A year after the explosion in Bucharest’s Rahova district, the upper floors of the damaged block have been demolished in a controlled operation. Digi24 reported on 27 October 2026 that the area is to be rebuilt from scratch, in a procedure described as a first in Romania. This article invents no new casualty toll.
Demolition became necessary after the contractor, during the make-safe stage, could install support props only for the lower floors. From the fifth floor up, walls were too damaged and the risk was judged too high, Digi24 said.
By mid-September about 270 apartments had been checked — on the stairwell hit by the blast and on neighbouring stairwells — with photographs of cracks and a technical report before demolition. Bucharest City Hall and the contractor also confirmed, in the same period, that the intervention on the damaged section was controlled.
The General Council of the Capital approved extending financial support for 43 affected families in the block by another 12 months. The official message remains about works and aid for residents, not an immediate reopening of every apartment.
The operation is part of the make-safe process after the blast; the stage reported is demolition of the damaged upper floors, followed by clearing and further assessment of the remaining structure. No invented reconstruction completion date is given here.
